SunstarTV Bureau: Indian Navy ships including Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) Corvette Kamorta and missile Corvette Karmuk are taking part in the 2nd edition of India, Singapore and Thailand Trilateral Maritime Exercise (SITMEX) 2020, from 21 to 22 November in the Andaman Sea.
Corvette Kamorta is one of the class of anti-submarine warfare corvette and currently in service with the Indian Navy . It is the first stealth corvettes to built in India at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) .It is also known as Project 28 and was approved in 2003. The cost of Kamorta-class Corvette is Rs. 7,800 crore (US$ 1 billion).
On the other hand, Corvette Karmuk is a kora- class corvette, serving the Indian Navy. Built in GRSE, it was laid down in 27 August 1997 and officially launched in April 2001. It is also identified as Pennant number: P64.
On conclusion of SITMEX, participating ships from Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) will exercise with the Indian Navy as part of Singapore India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) 2020 In the Bay of Bengal.
