Yavatmal (SunstarTV Bureau): A shocking incident took place in Ghatanji’s Kapsi-Kopari village in the district here, where at least 12 kids were administered hand sanitizers instead of oral polio vaccine drops at a Primary Health Centre.
Total of three nurses were suspended by the district health authorities on Monday.
According to sources, on Sunday morning over 2,000 children aged 1-5 years with their parents had gathered for polio vaccination programme, some of the children were given drops of sanitizers instead of polio drops. Meanwhile, many complained about stomachaches, cramps and started vomiting.
Sufferers were immediately rushed to Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College & Hospital (VNGMCH) for treatment.

After the incident, Yavatmal Collector M. Devender Singh visited the hospital on Sunday night and enquired about the condition of the children. Meanwhile, he ordered for probe to the Zilla Parishad CEO, where after three nurses on duties at the time have been suspended.
Notably, the incident came a day after the Polio National Immunization Day (January 31), which was launched by President R. N. Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday.
