SunstarTV Bureau: India is celebrating its 72nd Republic Day today with a shortened programme at Rajpath in Delhi amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The programme has begun at 9am and will conclude after the traditional fly past at 11.25 am.
Apart from a reduced list of events, the parade will also have a shorter route, no chief guest, fewer spectators, no children under 15 in the annual parade, and fewer soldiers in the Army and Navy contingents.
India’s military might, cultural diversity, social and economic progress will be on display during the 72nd Republic Day celebrations at the majestic Rajpath. Apart from tableaus of Armed forces, 17 tableaus from different states and nine tableaus from different ministries or departments of the central government and Paramilitary Forces and six from Ministry of Defence will also be on display during the annual parade.
The Republic Day Parade ceremony will commence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the National War Memorial.
This year also PM Modi has continued the turban tradition and wore a colourful ‘paghdi’ which is a gift to the Prime Minister by the royal family of Gujarat’s Jamnagar
