Social media trolling took Amitabh Bachchan and SONY’s most demanding show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ into forum of law, allegedly for impairing ‘Hindu sentiments’.
An FIR has been lodged against Mr Bachchan and the makers of the show. The turmoil came to existence, followed by the question related to an ancient Hindu text called Manusmirti, in the Karmaveer episode. Guests of the episode were social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anoop Soni.
The Rs 640,000 question that caused distraught amongst the people was ‘On 25 December 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture?’ The options for the above were a) Vishnu Purana, b) Bhagavad Gita, c) Rigved, and d) Manusmriti and the correct answer was Manusmriti.
Narrating the answer, Bachchan said in Hindi that in 1927, Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti and also burned copies of it to prove a point against the caste system.
However, the knowledge imparted was not welcomed by the social media users. #BoycottKBC flooded different social platforms, right after the episode was aired. Hindu activists have traduced the show makers over allegation of running the ‘leftist propaganda’, while some connected the whole fiasco to Hindu sentiments.
