SunstarTV Bureau: The Russian Sputnik V vaccines have arrived in India following the nod to Hyderabad –based pharmaceutical company.
The Sputnik V’s arrival is announced two days later American drug major Pfizer released interim information which showed its efficiency up to 90% over covid-19 virus in accord with German biotech firm BioNTech.
Dr Reddy’s laboratories have received approval to conduct adaptive phase 2/3 human clinical trial for the vaccine in the country. The Sputnik V vaccine candidate has demonstrated ‘high efficacy’ in interim data, reducing by 92%.
A video of small containers having the logo of Dr Reddy’s and Sputnik V being unloaded from a vehicle went viral on social media on Wednesday..
A spokesperson from the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said, “While Pfizer’s data was collected from over 43,500 participants, the Sputnik V findings have come from an evaluation of some 16,000 participants”. The Russian sovereign wealth fund has partnered with Dr Reddy to test the vaccine in India for grant of approval here.
RDIF said in a release, “The confirmation is based on the first interim data from the largest double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical trials in Russia involving 40,000 volunteers”.
The trials evaluated efficacy among over 16,000 volunteers who received the vaccine or placebo 21 days after the first injection. As a result of a statistical analysis of 20 confirmed cases of corona virus, the case split between vaccinated individuals and those who received the placebo indicates that the Sputnik V vaccine had an efficacy rate of 92 per cent after the second dose.
