SunstarTV Bureau: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Saturday will be unveiling the first public statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The six-foot-tall bronze statue is installed in Kavaratti island, and will be the first of it’s kind in the Island territory.
The administration is organising a three-day festival as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations and to commemorate the greatness of legendary Gandhi – father of the nation.
‘This will be the first ever statue to be unveiled in Lakshadweep islands in remembrance to the contribution and sacrifices of our great freedom fighters who dedicated their lives for the cause of India’s independence.
It is a milestone for Lakshadweep to unveil the statue of the Father of the Nation on the day of Gandhi Jayanti and dedicate it to the nation on this auspicious occasion by the Hon’ble Defence Minister,’ the administration said in a statement.
