SunstarTV Bureau: Today is the birthday of Bharat Ratna, vocal queen Lata Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar is celebrating her 92nd birthday today. On this special occasion, people from all over the world are congratulating her. She has recorded songs in 36 Indian languages. Lata Mangeshkar has lent her voice to more than 1,000 songs in Hindi language alone. She has also been honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. In the year 2001, Lata Mangeshkar has given India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’.

According to some news, Lata Mangeshkar was in love with Maharaja Raj Singh of Dungarpur royal family. He was also a friend of Hridaynath Mangeshkar, brother of Lata. But this love could not be fulfilled. It is said that Raj had promised his parents that they would not make any girl from a common household the daughter-in-law of their household. Raj kept this promise till death.
At the same time, Lata ji said that she had the responsibility of the whole house, that’s why she never married. But like Lata, Raj too remained unmarried throughout his life. Raj was also 6 years older than Lata. Raj was very fond of cricket. Due to this he was associated with BCCI for many years.
Raj used to affectionately call Lata as ‘Mitthu’. He always had a tape recorder in his pocket containing selected songs of Lata. Pertaining to mention here that, Raj Singh died on 12 September 2009. However, Lata Mangeshkar’s name was never associated with anyone other than Raj.
Notably, the responsibilities of family have led Lata that she could not complete her own studies just only to educate her younger sisters. Lata Mangeshkar already worked with her father in Marathi musical plays and at the age of 14, she started acting in big shows and plays. Lata was the eldest of all her five siblings. She was brought up in Maharashtra. Her magical voice has been spreading the magic in the film world for the last several decades.
