SunstarTV Bureau: On Monday, September 27, 2021, India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the first successful trial of a new version of the indigenously developed Akash missile.
Akash prime system is a series of spontaneous development for Akash missile defence system . Earlier Forces of India used the previous versions of Akash i.e Akash and Skash-1s. The missile adds the force to use such a homegrown missile system that is very capable intercepting upcoming aerial threats.
Namely ‘Akash Prime’, the new missile was tested at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.
As per DRDO’s statement, this was the Akash Prime missile’s maiden flight test adding some improvements. The test marked succesful as it intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target which mimicked as an enemy aircraft.
Akash Prime is an improved version of the Akash Missile system. It now features a homegrown Radio Frequency (RF) seeker that gives it pinpoint accuracy when attempting to intercept targets in different weather conditions. The new enhancements make Akash Prime capable in low-temperature environment in high altitude operational areas like the northern and northeastern fronts of India and also very capable in high temperature zone as of Western parts of the country .
