SunstarTV Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Indian diaspora for making their mark across the world. Modi has warmly welcomed by the Indian-American community on his arrival to Washington DC in America.
The prime minister was received by a group of Indian-Americans soon after his plane landed at the airport on Wednesday. Modi then interacted with the community members at the hotel. The Prime Minister tweeted pictures of his interaction with Indian-American CEOs and wrote, “I am grateful to the Indian community in Washington DC for the warm welcome. Indian diaspora is our strength.”
1.2% Indians in the US:
Modi said that the way Indian diaspora has carved a niche for itself in the world is commendable. Due to the current situation, the Prime Minister will probably not hold any big meeting this time. Modi is very popular among Indian-Americans. More than 1.2 percent of the US population is Indian-American.
First of all, ‘Indiaspora’ in America is very excited about PM Modi’s visit. The organization’s founder MR Rangaswamy said that PM Modi’s US visit is taking place at a time when India is in a strong position and the Indian economy has also gained momentum.
“Prime Minister Modi is coming to America in a strong position,” Rangaswamy said in an interview to news agency PTI-Bhasha. He said that India, under Modi’s leadership, has emerged as a strong economic power in the world. Companies are not only seeing it as an investment destination, but a large number of Indian ‘startups’ are now turning into ‘unicorns’.

‘Unicorn’ is called a startup company whose value is more than one billion dollars. Rangaswamy said, ‘India’s economy has started booming. This is much further than it was two years back. India’s economic power is taking the right form now. South Asian community leader Ajay Bhutaria welcomed Modi’s visit, saying it was a “very important step” towards further strengthening India-US bilateral ties. He further said that the visit has become even more important due to the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan. Modi will also address the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday.
