Prior to joining the TMC, Sushmita Dev was the Congress’s Mahila Morcha president. She resigned from Congress on August 14 this year. She sent her resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress. Sushmita is the daughter of the late senior Congress leader Santosh Moh Dev. She first arrived to Parliament in 2014 from the family seat Silchar.
