According to reports, the auction officials has not expected that the pistol would be auctioned off. “The auction of the pistol is about twice as high as the official estimate. It is the most expensive pistol in the world. The pistol was kept as one of the famous stories of the Wild West,” said the auction house official.
Henry McCarthy, better known as “Billy the Kid,” was sentenced to death by hanging on April 21, 1881, at the age of 21. However, Billy escaped from prison. A few months later, Garrett shot and killed him with a pistol. He was also admitted to the hospital at the time but did not survive.
