SunstarTV Bureau: WhatsApp informed the court on plea hearing for it’s new user policy that it has voluntarily hold it’s new guidelines .
Representing WhatsApp, senior Advocate Harish Salve tells Delhi HC that Whatsapp has responded to MEITY’s notice seeking a response. “WhatsApp will not limit functionality for any definite time and continue to show users the updated until Data Protection Bill comes into action and will continue to display the update to its users”, Mr Salve said.
WhatsApp’s new privacy policy – which was announced for February – had outraged a massive public inconvenience with the government amid sensitive data-sharing with parent company Facebook, and potential violation of users’ rights.
WhatsApp’s new privacy policy would have been effective in early February. After facing with massive backlash from users rollout was delayed till May 15, and then again pushed back one more a week before that deadline.
