Uttarakhand (SunstarTV Bureau): The 45-year-old Pushkar Singh Dhami, an MLA of Khatima elected as Uttarakhand BJP legislative party leader on Saturday following Tirath Singh Rawat’s resignation.
Meanwhile, Dhami soon to become the next youngest Chief Minister in the state’s history.
The legislature party meeting happened at the BJP headquarters in Dehradun in the presence of central observer Narendra Tomar and BJP general secretary in-charge of Uttarakhand Dushyant Kumar Gautam. All the MLAs were asked to be present at the meeting.
BJP leader Tirath Singh Rawat resigned as the state’s chief minister on Friday after holding the post for less than four months. He had replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat in March.
The name of Dhami, considered close to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was declared after the 57 Uttarakhand BJP MLAs met today. The two-time-MLA represents the Khatima constituency. He was an Officer on Special Duty to former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari. Uttarakhand is due for its next Assembly election in less than a year.
Rawat on Friday handed over his resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya past 11 pm, hours after returning from Delhi where he was summoned by the top BJP leadership on Wednesday.
