SunstarTV Bureau: For the first time, the BJP has been the main challenger for Mamata Banerjee’s party in West Bengal, the TMC. But the BJP has not yet announced its chief minister candidate. For the third time in a row, it is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. In 2014, the BJP won only three seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections. However, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it won 14 Lok Sabha seats. Since then, the BJP has been considered a major power in West Bengal. However, the BJP has not yet selected a chief ministerial candidate, and there is a direct battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mamata in West Bengal.
In both Kolkata and Delhi, some of the key names for the BJP’s West Bengal chief ministerial candidate are being discussed. Cricket icon Sourav Ganguly is on the list of BJP’s chief ministerial candidates. Ganguly has not yet joined politics, but is expected to do so before the next general election. But his health has deteriorated recently and nothing has been determined yet. State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh is also on the list. The list also includes the names of Tathagata Rai, brother of 4 TM4C leader Saugat Rai and former governor of Meghalaya. Subhendu Adhikari, a former TMJC leader who joined the BJP, is also in the running. But so far no formal announcement has been made that there will be a direct fight between Modi and Mamata in West Bengal.
