SunstarTV Bureau: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to make the process of obtaining a Driving Licence (DL) and all related services online by March.

States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Delhi NCR have already made a shift to online mode.

These services will also go online in the remaining States across the country by March.

As per the instructions of the Central government, all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the country are gradually shifting to online mode.

Following this, people who want to apply for new learners’ licence, renewals, duplicate driving licence and temporary vehicle registration will no longer have to visit the RTOs.

They would have to upload the required documents to get the licence and would have to visit the RTO for driving tests only.

Sources said the process of registration of VIP numbers will also become easier following a transfer to online mode.

Getting DLs will be easier these States
States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR have already made changes in the procedure to obtain a learner’s licence and registration of vehicles.

Till now, some states were accepting applications in both online and offline ways but all these services will go online from March.

Procedure of depositing DL’s fees also changed
It is important to note here that the transport department of almost all states across the country has made a change in the system of depositing fees for the learning licence.

Under the new system, the applicant need to pay the fees before booking a slot for the test. Once the fee is paid via any available online medium, the applicant can choose a time slot for the test. The government in recent months has brought several changes to the motor vehicle rules.

Earlier, the Modi government mandated that people will no longer need to carry physical copies of their vehicle-related documents including their driving license. It allowed people to save copies of their documents on government portals, MParivahan or Digilocker.
