Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the first consignment of Covishield vaccine dispatched from Serum Institute of India in Pune to reach Odisha on Tuesday.
“The vaccine will be flown to Odisha in special SpiceJet flight and land at Biju Pattnaik International Airport at around 4.20 pm today,” informed the Health and Family Welfare department.
The nationwide vaccination drives to commence from January 16.
According to sources, in the wee hours today the Serum institute to deliver the first batch of vaccine to all States and Union Territories. Three temperature-controlled trucks to roll out of the Serum Institute of India before 5 am and left for Pune airport, from where the vaccines are being flown across India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that public representatives are not on the priority list and the first round of vaccines will be given to the front line workers. He also said that the first round of Covid vaccines to be vaccinated with no cost, where the Centre will bear the cost.
