SunstarTV Bureau: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is helping Indian textile industries to become self empowered by helping them produce yarns for making military uniforms.
Director of Directorate of Industry Interface and Technology management (DIITM), Mayank Dwivedi informed that for Indian army’s summer uniform alone, the approximate fabric requirement is 55 lakh meter. If the requirement for Navy, Para military and Air Force will be combined together it might go up to 1.5 crore meters per annum.
He has also said that this will help materialise Prime Minister’s call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and fuel the process of boycotting Chinese and foreign goods.
The advanced fabrics can be used for future requirement of the parachute and bulletproof jackets as well, added Mayank.
