SunstarTV Bureau: After twitter boycotted Tanishq over ‘love jihad’ controversy, #BoycottNetflix trends over the shooting scene of kissing in temple premises from the Netflix featured movie ‘A Suitable Boy’.
This movie is directed by Mira Nair starring Ishaan Khattar, Tabu, Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Duggal, and Ram Kapoor . It is based on the famous novel by Vikram Seth, set in the 1950’s newly independent India. The resentment was over a scene in which the characters played by Tanya Maniktala and Kabir Durrani are seen kissing in a temple. While the former Lata Mehra is a Hindu, the latter character was a Muslim named Danesh Razvi. The scene was shot in a Shiva Temple in MP’s Maheshwar.
Several cybernauts have already accused Mira Nair for promoting love jihad. And now a BJP leader, Gaurav Tiwari has registered a case against Netflix in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa over the issue. He posted a video and details of the FIR thereby announcing that he is uninstalling Netflix from his phone, since then #BoycottNetflix started to trend on Twitter.
The scene appears to have defamed religious sensibilities. Madhya Pradesh MP Narottam Mishra also expressed his discontentment. In a video message, he said that the content hurts religious sentiments and says it is worthy of legal intervention.
