Significance:
Every year, December 14 is celebrated as Energy Conservation Day to raise awareness on the importance of energy conservation for the present and future generations. The conservation of energy is an important step that needs to be taken to ensure that the coming generations live in a brighter tomorrow.
Energy conservation emphasises the judicious use of energy to minimise wastage and to save sources for the future. Energy conservation also advocates the importance of non-renewable resources.
History:
The India Energy Conservation Act was first implemented by the Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) in 2001. The BEE is a body that works under the jurisdiction of the Government of India and formulates policies regarding the use of energy.
On this day, a large number of events such as discussions, conferences, debates, workshops, and competitions, etc. are held across the country to observe the day.
