Maharashtra (SunstarTV Bureau): Solapur Primary school teacher, Ranjitsinh Disale, became the first Indian to win the Rs 7.4 core worth Global Teacher Prize(GTP).
32-year old teacher Ranjitsinh from Solapur district, Maharashtra became the winner out of the nominations of 12,000 teachers from across 140 countries around the world and to share his prize money with other finalists for a wholesome growth in educational field, all over the world.
“In his winning speech Mr Disale made the extraordinary announcement that he will share half the prize money with his fellow Top 10 finalists, resulting in the other nine finalists receiving just over US$55,000 each. This is the first time in the Global Teacher Prize’s six year history that the overall winner has shared the prize money with other finalists”, mentioned GTP’s official site.
Amongst the top 10 finalists- Carlo Mazzone of Italy, Doani E. Bertan of Brazil, Ha Anh Phuong of Vietnam, Jamie Frost of UK, Jeong-Hyun Yun of South Korea, Leah Juelke of USA, Mokhudu Machaba of South Africa, Olasunkanmi Opeifa of Nigeria, Ranjitsinh Disale of India, and Samuel Isaiah of Malaysia were present.
In a unique attempt to improve the educational value, which includes promoting girl’s education through QR coded books.
Government of Maharashtra, stated, “I convey my heartiest greetings and felicitations to Shri Ranjitsinh Disale, teacher from ZP school in Paritewadi, Solapur district on being chosen for the coveted $ 1 million Global Teacher Prize 2020, which is awarded by the London-based Varkey Foundation. Shri Disale’s work of generating interest about education among children from rural areas, through innovative ideas and use of technology are commendable and worthy of emulating by others.”
Disale said, “Teachers are the real change-makers who are changing the lives of their students with a mixture of chalk and challenges. They always believe in giving and sharing. And, therefore, I am very pleased to announce that I will share 50% of the prize money equally among my fellow top 10 finalists to support their incredible work. I believe, together, we can change this world because sharing is growing.”
