SunstarTV Bureau: On Tuesday, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut offered an explanation after netizens brutally trolled her for sharing a photograph of prasadam thali from ‘ashtami puja’ with onions.
For the unversed, on the day of Chaitra Durga Ashtami, Goddess Mahagauri, the eighth form of Nav-Durga is worshipped the devotees observe a day-long fast. On the day of Ashtami, before breaking the fast, nine girls below the age of ten are worshipped and are fed sumptuously. This custom is known as Kanya Pujan. However, for all the nine days of Navratri Puja, consumption of onion and garlic among other things such as non-vegetarian food is prohibited.
And so, when Kangana shared a picture of a prasadam thali which, among other things, included a small bowl of green chilli and onion, she got massively trolled online and the hashtag #onion started trending.
The actress revealed that while she is fasting during Navratri, the thali looks tempting.
However, reacting to the backlash, the actress said one should not be ridiculed if they wish to eat salad with prasadam, adding that Hinduism is not rigid like other religions.
“Imagine to be fasting on ashtami when parsadam in your house looks like this….ashtami ki hardik shubhkamnaye,” Kangana tweeted on Tuesday along with the picture.
Kangana wrote, in reaction to the trolling: “Can’t believe #Onion is one of the top trends. Well this is not to hurt anyone but the beauty of Hinduism is that it’s not rigid like other religions, let’s not ruin that, I am fasting today if my family wants to eat salad with parsadam let’s not ridicule them #Onion #navratri2021.
