SunsatrTV Bureau: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has constituted a Committee to develop guidelines along with implementation strategy for induction and mentorship of teachers in non-technical stream (NIIMT).

The basic objective of mentorship of teachers is to equip them with a broad repertoire of skills and dispositions to improve the results of students.

The Committee has already prepared draft UGC guidelines for induction and mentorship of teachers in non-technical stream (NIIMT). The Commission has sought suggestions on the draft guidelines from the stakeholders by February 6, 2021.

It is pertinent to mention here that one of the recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is to develop a system of mentorship by experienced, distinguished and retired faculty.

As per proposals, a National Mission for Mentoring shall be established, with a large pool of outstanding senior or retired faculty (including those with the ability to teach in Indian languages) who would be willing to provide short and long-term mentoring or professional support to university and college teachers.

Apart from this, focus will be given on the use and integration of technology to improve multiple aspects of education will be supported and adopted, provided these interventions are rigorously and transparently evaluated in relevant contexts before they are scaled up.

An autonomous body, the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), will be created to provide a platform for the free exchange of ideas on the use of technology to enhance learning, assessment, planning, administration, and so on, both for school and higher education.
