SunstarTV Bureau: Puri police has sized 200 grams of brown sugar from the pilgrim town, on Thursday.
According to reports, the police arrested two people in connection with the case and seized brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh.
The drug peddlers were caught near Siddha Mahavir railway level crossing while smuggling the contraband item from Balasore through Purushottam Express.
Earlier, the Excise department’s flying squad and police seized 47 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 4.70 lakh during a joint raid at Alipingala area in Jagatsinghpur district.
In November 2020, Excise sleuths conducted a similar raid and seized brown sugar worth Rs 3 lakh from Jajpur district. The raiding team also arrested three persons for allegedly smuggling the contrabands.
