Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Friday made a big announcement that for the first time in India ‘Thunderstorm Research Testbed’ will come up in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The research centre will to be established under the joint collaboration of Ministry of Earth-Sciences, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), informed IMD Director General.
The planning has made after the huge numbers of causalities due to lightning strikes reported in several states including Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar witness during April to June.
“Several states including Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar witness thunderstorms and lightning strikes during April to June. A lot of human casualties are reported in such thunderstorms and lightning. To save precious lives, there is a need to undertake a research so that early information can be disseminated,” said Mohapatra.
