Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): ‘Paika Bidroha’ (Paika Rebellion), a short film produced by Akshay Kumar Parija won the Special Jury Award at the 9th Mumbai International Short Film Festival this year.
Based on the Paika rebellion that took place in 1817, the short film had won four State Film Awards for Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and the Best Film by Jury in 2018.
Notably, Paika rebellion was an armed rebellion against the British East India Company’s rule in 1817. The Paikas rose in rebellion under their leader Bakshi Jagabandhu and, projecting Jagannath as the symbol of Odia unity, the rebellion quickly spread across most of Odisha before being ruthlessly put down by the company’s forces.
‘Paika Bidroha’ features Manoj Mishra as Jayee Rajaguru and Samaresh Routray as Buxi Jagabandhu. Nischay Rout and Anuj Tyagi have directed the film. The story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Hara Prasad Dash.
The costumes of the film were designed by Coproducer Barnali Rath.
