SunstarTV Bureau: Adding another feather to its cap, Odisha receives two prestigious National-level fisheries awards on the occasion of ‘World Fisheries Day’ at an event organised in New Delhi, today.
The State bags the ‘Best Marine State’ award and Kalahandi district receivs the ‘Best District Award’ in Inland fisheries sector of fisheries and aquaculture, respectively.
The awards are bestowed by the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singh in presence of Minister of State Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Sanjeev Kumar Balyan along with other dignitaries from Government of India.

While the ‘Best Marine State’ award offers a financial incentive of Rs.10.00 lakh, the ‘Best Inland District’ award for Kalahandi district will receive a financial aid of Rs.3.00 lakh.
Expressing gratitude over the achievements, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in his message stated that Odisha is committed to be a ‘Pioneer State’ in fish production to strengthen food security and secure livelihood.

He congratulated the Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Department and Kalahandi District Administration for receiving the awards.
