New Delhi (SunstarTV Bureau): Idol immersion shall not be allowed in any public places such as water bodies, ponds, ghats and including the river Yamuna during the forthcoming Durga Puja, informed Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on Tuesday and issued the notice yesterday.
The order also specified that idol immersion can take place in people’s houses or community centres where there are arrangements for immersion in buckets or other containers.

Meanwhile, any violators shall be liable to pay Rs 50,000 per default, to be deposited with DPCC.
The initiatives has been taken by the authority board as the chemical paints, colors and dyes applied on idols contain hazardous chemicals, elements like Mercury, Zinc, Oxide, Chromium, Lead, Cadmium etc. which cause harmful effects on aquatic life, which when consumed by humans may cause cancer and other diseases including respiratory ailments, skin infections etc.
