Jaleshwar (SunstarTV Bureau): The heavy rainfall in Odisha made flood like situation on Jalaka River, which now flows over the danger mark. The current situation panicked to numbers of farmers, which eventually hamper to their harvesting fields.
After the storm, the floodwaters receded. Hundreds hectares of farmlands are now submerged. The danger level at the river’s Mathani was 5.50 meters, while the water level was 6.51 meters by 9 am. In addition to this there is a risk of heavy flood due to rising water levels.
The water level in the Jalaka River, which flows through the Basta block of Balasore district, has been rising since September 11 due to light rains. Similarly, the headwaters of the river are rising in Suliapada, Morada, Chitrada and Rasgobindpur areas of Mayurbhanj and also causing flood like situation.
Twelve panchayats of Patrajhada, Sadanandapur, Baharda, Mathani, Dudhansa, Rautpada, Gadpada, Kudia, Basichkurai, Darada, Brahmanda, Barunagadia and two panchayats in the Basta block, Rasulpur and Srirampur, are likely to be affected by the floods. More than 200 acres of farmland have been flooded. Many villages are flooded. Riverfront residents have been found to be terrified.
