Cuttack (SunstarTV Bureau): After Dusmanta Das of Jagatsinghpur district died, attempting suicide in front of the state Assembly on Wednesday alleging medical negligence towards him at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Bhubaneswar, the state-run hospital on Thursday has released its enquiry report in this connection.
Dusmanta, who reportedly had met a road accident in March 2020 at his native in Kujanga area of Jagatsinghpur district, had alleged that he failed to walk again even after being operated twice at SCB due to medical negligence. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have refuted the allegation.
In the report, the hospital authorities said the enquiry committee made necessary consultation with the treating physicians and took into account the material / circumstantial evidence available in this connection.
“That the patient with alleged history of fall from bike on March 22, 2020 was admitted to casualty of SCB MCH on the next day under general surgery with a diagnosis of lacerated wound over left knee. Subsequently, he was referred for plastic surgery consultation for suspected venous/arterial injury. He was suffering from severe Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) and admitted with cross injury knee and compartment syndrome,” the report reads.
“He came to hospital after 12 hours of injury which was very late to save his limb. He was operated in plastic surgery department by a team of orthopedics and plastic surgeon for eight hrs (first with repair of vessel and nerve and then skin grafting in 2nd operation).
No negligence in treatment has ever been made in respect of Dusmanta Das at SCB and timely treatment was provided to him completely free of cost. In view of the nature and quantum of injury sustained by the deceased, normal result was not expected nor a feasible proposition. Addressing to the residual complaints, he was suggested with three possible options which the deceased declined to accept,” the hospital authorities clarified in the report.
