Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday spoke to the Indian Men’s Hockey team over telephone and congratulated them for the tremendous victory on the Tokyo Olympics ground.
Pertaining to mention here that, the team won bronze by defeating Germany 5-4 in a high-intensity goal-fest today.
Soon after, the Odisha Chief Minister, Patnaik took to his Twitter handle and extended his best wishes to the team.
“This historic win at Tokyo Olympics 2020 will inspire generation of sports persons. All the very best for future,” he tweeted.
Earlier, he had announced cash award of Rs 6 crore for winning Gold medal, Rs 4 crore for Silver and Rs 2.5 crore for Bronze. He had also announced Rs 15 lakh for each participant from Odisha.
Odisha’s Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas created history as they became the first two players from the state to win Olympics medal.
Lakra and Rohidas were part of the Indian men’s hockey team that defeated Germany 5-4 in the bronze medal match of Tokyo Olympics as the country won its first Olympics hockey medal after a gap of 41 years.
