Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): As a part of of disaster management awareness programme, Utkal university has joined hands with Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) to release a booklet to educate the students at the elementary level over State Specific Disasters on the special occasion of World Drowning Prevention Day.
Reportedly, with the help of the RUSA 2.0 project, the University has developed the booklet.
The purpose behind to introduced this booklet that, very few people are aware that natural calamities like lightning, whirlwind, tornado, heavy rain, sunstroke, boat accident, snakebites and drowning occur in day to day life. The Odisha government had declared these eight natural calamities as Stated Specific Disasters on April 1, 2015.
Drowning is one of the major calamities that happened to all age group of people especially to children, due to lack of awareness and negligence.
This book was designed to make it interesting for students to read along with giving them valuable informations regarding drowning. The book will be distributed among students of rural areas in State.
Prof. Sabita Aacharya, Vice Chancellor of Utkal University said, “as a part of Utkal’s community linkage and Rural Outreach programme, the varsity plans to impart water safety and safe rescue skills to the students of the elementary stage with the help of OSDMA and ODRAF.”
