Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): To monitor the missing and abduction of minor children in city, the Commissionerate Police has launched a special cell in the Capital city-Minor Kidnapping and Missing Cell- to deal with the cases.
Meanwhile, on a trial basis operation functioning the cell being headed by an ACP rank officer with an inspector and two sub-inspectors as its members.
According to DCP Umashankar Dash, the cell will more actively function once the pandemic situation is over with lifting of lockdown restrictions.
Launching of the special cell comes in the wake of hundreds of cases on missing and abduction of children pending at different police stations.
As many as 800 minor missing cases are pending at various police stations under Commissionerate Police.
Not only missing cases but several other cases related to indentifying bodies are pending in Commissionerate Police.
“During a review, we found around 800 minor girls missing cases have been registered in different police stations. These apart, missing reports, unknown body reports have also been filed many times. We have launched a special cell comprising an ACP, an inspector and two sub-inspectors to deal with these cases. The cell has already rescued 30 minor girls from different locations of the State,” Dash added.
The cell aims at creating awareness at educational institutions after Covid pandemic.
The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has also launched special drive to rescue missing children.
