Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The United Nation has Parised Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his farsighted and magnificent disaster management efforts for saving thousands of lives during natural calamities in Odisha.
Chief of UN Office for disaster risk reduction Mami Mizutori said that Odisha’s example sets huge scenario for developing countries to strengthen disaster risk governance, well preparedness and calculating a greater risk to understand the disaster.
Mizutori said, “Patnaik has provided political commitment necessary to build a robost and well resourced disaster management authority. In 1999, some 10,000 people died on Odisha coast line and that has never been repeated.”
UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has previously appreciated many times Patnaik’s efforts during Phailin and other major disasters. Odisha has magnificently proved that it is well efficient to control and coordinate the evacuation and rehabilitation for people in masses.
