Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): Once again Odisha crossed the mark in a single-day Covid spike with 11,099 more people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative infection figures in the State to 6,44,401.
Meanwhile as many as 21 patients succumbed to the contagious disease during the period pushing the death toll to 2,378, informed the State Health and Family Welfare Department.
Besides, the total recovery tally went up to 5,36,595 in with 10,242 recoveries reported during the period. The active cases now stand at 1,05,375. The State has so far conducted 11,058,386 tests for the viral infection.
Out of 21 fatalities, three deaths have been reported from Kalahandi while two each from Khurdha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Sundergarh districts.
Similarly, one patient succumbed to the virus each from Bolangir, Bargarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Puri district in last 24 hours.
Of the fresh cases, 6214 people were found infected with the virus from quarantine centres while the rest 4,885 people caught the infections from local contacts.
With 1460 new cases, Khordha topped the chart followed by Sundargarh district which posted 983 new infections and Cuttack remained next to it with 867 cases.
Angul registered 552 new cases in the last 24 hours followed by Sambalpur which witnessed 547 and Mayurbhanj at 507 infections.
As many as 431 cases have been detected from Bhadrak in the last 24 hours, 408 from Balasore, 378 from Jajpur, 356 from Puri, 351 from Nabarangpur, 339 from Bargarh, 307 from Jharsuguda, and 302 new cases from Jagtasinghpur.
Districts registering below 300 cases are Kalahandi (299), Bolangir (288), Koraput (280), Nayagarh (277), Sonepur (252), Nuapada (232), and Boudh (213). As many as 242 people tested positive from the State pool.
Districts like Ganjam, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Deogarh, and Malkangiri reported 196, 170, 162, 165, 156, 107, 102 new cases respectively.
