Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): Former bureaucrat and noted writer Gopinath Mohanty passed away on Monday after battling with deadly Corona virus for the last some days in a private hospital here.
He was in his seventies and is survived by his wife and former Koreir MLA Sanchita Mohanty and two sons.
Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal also expressed his condolences on the demise of Mohanty.
“Hon’ble Governor is saddened to know about the sad demise of Gopinath Mohanty, former bureaucrat & culture activist and conveyed his deep sympathy to bereaved family . ‘His contribution to literary and cultural field of Odisha will be remembered for ever,’ said Hon’ble Governor,” tweeted from his official account.
Mohanty started his career as an OAS officer and served in various capacities with the Odisha government before being promoted to IAS (1989 batch). He served as collector of Dhenkanal and Angul districts and then held the positions of secretary of culture and information and publication relations department.
He was also a known writer, literary organiser and researcher on Jagannath. He was also president of Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Sansad.
State BJP president Sameer Mohanty mourned his death, describing him as a “multi-talented person who will always be remembered”.
