SunstarTV Bureau: The Supreme Court on Monday has decided that all judges would function from their homes and benches will assemble through video links. The decision has taken after 50 percent staffs of Supreme Court test COVID-19 positive.
The entire court premises, including the courtrooms, are being sanitized, said report. Meanwhile, the benches will assemble an hour later than the scheduled time of either 10.30 or 11.30 am.
However, the unbelievable sudden spike inside the SC’s premises and their family members was panicked. As the CJI and judges have decided to take utmost precaution to prevent the situation under control, informed one official.
Notably, last year as many as six SC judges had got infected with Coronavirus. But with adequate precautions taken since then, the incidents of coronavirus infection among staff had reduced considerably.
With the SC E-Committee, headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud, proactively purchasing 1,600 video links for the purpose of conducting hearing of cases through video-conferencing, there is adequate bandwidth and links available with the SC to avoid disruption during the virtual hearing of cases.
India is experiencing a ferocious new wave of the pandemic with around 10 lakh new cases being reported over the past week. Today was the sixth consecutive day it reported over a lakh daily cases with 1,68,912 new infections — the highest ever daily surge till now. Up to to 904 people died of Covid-related issues in the past 24 hours, according to the latest Health Ministry data published this morning.
