New Delhi (SunstarTV Bureau): The Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan on Thursday informed that the daily new cases of Covid-19 in country were recorded above 17,000after a little over one month taking the total tally of cases to 1,11,56,923 while the recoveries surged to 1,08,26,075.
The Minister took his personal tweeter handle and tweeted, “The government has ended the time constraint to increase the speed of vaccination. Citizens of the country can now get vaccinated 24×7 at their convenience.”
According to health department report, a total of 17,407 infections were reported in a day. However, the death toll increased to 1,57,435 with 89 daily new fatalities till 8 am updated.
The nation-wide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers being inoculated against the virus. Vaccination of the frontline workers began on February 2.
The next phase of vaccination commenced on March 1 for those who are over 60 years of age and for people aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions. A total of 1,56,20,749 vaccine doses have been given till now.
According to ICMR report, 21,91,78,908 samples have been tested up to March 3 with 7,75,631 samples being tested on Wednesday.
