SunstarTV Bureau: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi is set to contest the upcoming assembly elections in North India. Keeping this in mind, the Owaisi has issued a major statement on the plight of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. Owaisi said the situation of Muslims here is like the ‘Band Baja Party’.
There is no leader here to raise the issue of Muslims. Addressing a public meeting in Kanpur yesterday, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “The situation of the Muslims has become like a‘ band baja party ’in a procession. Where they (Muslims) are first asked to play music. But when they get to the wedding, they stand outside.”
“In the near future, Muslims will not play music here,” he said. UP has leaders of every race. UP has a 19% Muslim population. But there is no leader. Owaisi added that 27% of the inmates in UP prisons are Muslims. This is the data of the Government of India. He further alleged that it is the Samajwadi Party (SP) that gets the most votes from Muslims, or the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which is talking about Dalit-Muslim unity for social justice, no one has led the Muslims.”
According to the 2011 census, the proportion of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh is 19.26 per cent. Muslims are believed to play a key role in 82 of the state’s 403 assembly constituencies. Notably, AIMIM has announced that it will contest 100 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Owaisi’s party contested 38 seats, but did not win a single seat. In the last assembly elections in Bihar, they won five seats.
