Thiruvananthapuram (SunstarTV Bureau): As many as 48 total Zika virus cases in Kerala which rose to 48 on Sunday after two more people tested positive for the infections so far, informed Health Minister Veena George.
According to sources, the cases were reported from Thiruvananthapuram after the test report done at the Kerala Capital Medical College’s virology lab. Among the duo patients, one is 27 year old and other is 37 year old.
Meanwhile, the patients health condition are stable, said the Kerala government.
The Zika virus is transmitted primarily by the Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the day, as per the World Health Organization (WHO). It can also be sexually transmitted. Symptoms of the infection include fever, rashes, headache and joint pain.
Currently, Kerala has four active Zika virus cases including five pregnant women, have recovered and tested negative for the infection. All of Kerala’s Zika virus cases, except two have been reported from the Capital.
The Zika virus comes amid the State while struggling to control the number of COVID-19 cases. Yesterday, Kerala reported as many as 17,466 new Corona cases, taking the total number of infections since January, 2020 to 32,71,530. The Positivity rate stood at 12.3 percent while the deaths toll reached to 16,035 with 66 more deaths.
