Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The Congress party in Odisha will launch State-wide protests from July 7 to 17 over the hike in the prices of fuel and other essential commodities.
Party workers will be staging demonstrations at every block office on July 7 protesting over rising fuel prices. Similarly the party activists will stage protests at every subdivision of all districts on July 9.
The Covid-19 pandemic has broken the backbone of people. During this pandemic, oil prices have increased manifold which has further affected the common man. Oil prices have also crossed Rs 100 mark in more than 150 cities of the country,” said Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik.
He further said that the prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed owing to the steep rise in fuel prices.
“People are suffering because of the hike in fuel prices. The Centre must slash the oil price to help people fight the pandemic. We also urge common people to join us in the protest,” said Patnaik adding that a signature campaign in protest against the fuel price rise will be held in the Capital City on July 14.
Another similar campaign will be organised at all the petrol pumps on July 17. We will also request the consumers not to buy petrol, diesel and gas on July 15,” appealed Patnaik.
The Congress party also slammed the Odisha Government over the alleged mismatch in the Covid-19 deaths in the State and accused the government of projecting fabricated figures to save its face in the fight against the pandemic.
“It is evident from the mismatched figures that the Odisha government has tried to suppress the Covid death numbers to protect its image. Our party will conduct a survey on the exact number of Covid victims in the State this month. We will prepare a report by collecting data from the family members and relatives of all the Covid victims and submit it to All India Congress Committee (AICC),” he added.
