Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rescued many homeless beggars from different parts of city Bhubaneswar under its initiative to make state capital free of beggars.
According to this action plan, the rescued beggars are being housed at the shelter for urban homeless ‘SUH’ of BMC where they will stay with other inmates as a family. The BMC is also planning to rehabilitate the beggars by making them self-reliant.
In December last year, the BMC and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) have started initiating the process to make ‘Ekamra Kshetra’, the heritage hub of the Temple City beggar-free as part of the beautification and developmental work of the state government’s Ekamra Kshetra Amenities and Monumental Revival Action (EKAMRA) Plan.
The Administration had deployed Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government officials in identifying beggars and shifting them to shelter homes.
