Sambalpur (SunstarTV Bureau): By demanding immediate action over cruelty act by a woman who allegedly poisoned  six stray dogs at Jagruti Vihar of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) campus in Burla, Sambalpur district, the noted animal rights activists and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi spoke to Sambalpur SP, B Gangadhar on Tuesday.

Gandhi, founder of People For Animals (PFA), also spoke to the Burla Police Station Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) Kamal Lochan Panda in this regard and urged him to initiate legal action against the woman.

An FIR in this regard had been lodged against the woman at the Burla Police Station by MCL’s Chief Security Officer on May 28. The officer had also submitted the photographs of the carcasses of the poisoned canines.

As per the complaint filed by the security officer, the accused woman was upset after the street dogs damaged the seat of her car. She had also informed the Chief Security Officer about the damage.

However, the next day, members of the People for Animals (PFA) in Sambalpur, after receiving the news of the poisoning of six dogs at Jagruti Vihar, met the Chief Security Officer, who told them about the possible role of the woman behind the brutal killings, said reports.

The Sambalpur PFA co-ordinator subsequently filed another complaint with the Burla Police Station demanding strict action against the woman on June 1.

Meanwhile, the Burla Police Station has started an investigation into the incident and checking footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the colony to ascertain the reason behind the death of the animals. On the other hand, the SP, Sambalpur has assured Gandhi of stringent action if anyone is found guilty of committing the horrific crime.

Recently, a retired banker was arrested by the Infocity Police in Bhubaneswar on charges of animal cruelty after a video purportedly showing him throwing some kittens in front of stray dogs and causing their death, went viral on social media.
