Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The Odisha Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department on Monday has reported a big jump as a total of 4,445 persons tested positive for the infection while four patient succumbed to the lethal virus in the last 24 hours.
According to report, this is reported the highest single day spike in state ever since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.
Notably, Odisha had last registered the highest cases around seven months ago on September 25, 2020 when 4,356 people had tested positive for the virus with 2,529 from quarantine and 1,827 local contacts.
Of the fresh cases detected in 30 districts of the State, a total of 2,574 cases were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 1,871 were local transmission cases.
The State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department reported two fatalities from Sundergarh and other two from Jharsuguda and Keonjhar districts.
As many as 13 districts of the State reported over 100 cases. While Sundargarh topped the list with 722 cases, Khordha remained in the second position with 587 positive cases. This was followed by Nuapada (437), Kalahandi (273), Cuttack (251), Sambalpur (241), Jharsuguda (231), Puri (219), Bargarh (178), Bolangir (168), Nabarangpur (127), Balasore (123) and Mayurbhanj (100).
Districts which reported over 50 cases are- Angul (87), Keonjhar (75), Ganjam (62), Jajpur (58), Rayagada (53) and Nayagarh (50). Other districts which detected less than 50 cases are- Bhadrak (43), Deogarh (35), Kendrapara (35), Jagatsighpur (33), Kandhamal (29), Boudh (21), Koraput (21), Sonepur (22), Dhenkanal (20), Gajapati (10) and Malkangiri (9).
With Monday’s inclusion, the Coronavirus positive tally in the State surged to 3,72,703 while the death toll rose to 1,948. The active cases in the State stood at 24,568 and 3,46,134 patients have been cured or recovered.
Meanwhile, the State has so far tested a total of 96,36,052 samples including 36,175 on Sunday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.87 percent.
