Khordha (SunstarTV Bureau): On the eve Utkal Divas, the District administration of Khordha has announced to make Odia language mandatory on all commercial establishments and shops signboards from today onwards.
According to Khordha Collector Sanat Mohanty, “We have decided to make the Odia language mandatory on signboards of all shops and business establishments across the district. We will make people aware of the administrative decision and pursue them to adhere to the rules. All government officials have also been asked to make signboards of their respective offices in Odia language.”
However, a strict action will be taken against the violators as per law, he added. Meanwhile, the initiative has been welcomed by personalities from various sections.
“The government order has been confined in only announcement. The government officers only make declarations, but don’t translate it into action. Punishment should be awarded to the violators,” said Khordha Utkal Sammilani secretary Bichitra Badjena.
Notably, in March 2018, the Odisha cabinet had decided to make Odia language mandatory on signboards of all shops and commercial establishments.
