SunstarTV Bureau: World’s two branded companies Apple and Amazon, co-founders Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos respectively are well known to people, however, lesser known facts beyond to their professional stuffs.
A book titled ‘Working Backwards: Insights, Stories, and Secrets from Inside Amazon’ shares a narration about an interesting meeting in between the two ruling beasts of tech industry.
According to CultoMac report, the book has the mentions Jobs and Bezos meeting over a platter of sushi, where Jobs told him about how Apple has developed the greatest Windows applications ever created. The name of the application is iTunes.
The book was written by Amazon employees Colin Bryar and Bill- both of whom joined the company in the late 1990s. There the authors have talked about Bezos, Bryar, and Diego Piacentini who is the former Apple VP who later Amazon- voyaged from Seattle to Cupertino for meeting with Jobs.
Moreover, they were greeted by Jobs and another Apple employee, “who ushered us into a nondescript conference room with a Windows PC and two platters of takeout sushi. We had an informal discussion about the state of the music industry (note: this was not long after Apple launched iTunes) while doing some serious damage to the sushi platters, for it was already past dinnertime.”
“After dabbing his mouth with a napkin, Jobs segued into the real purpose of the meeting and announced that Apple had just finished building their first Windows application. He calmly and confidently told us that even though it was Apple’s first attempt to build for Windows, he thought it was the best Windows application anyone had ever built.”
Further, Jobs predicted the demise of CDs at the meeting and said Bezos indirectly. Job mentioned, “Amazon has a decent chance of being the last place to buy CDs.
“The business will be high-margin but small. You’ll be able to charge a premium for CDs since they’ll be hard to find.”At this point, CDs play a big role in Amazon’s portfolio and Jobs responded based on the report which could be interpreted and told Bezos that Apple is “destroying a big part of your business.”
As per the report, the book’s author assumed that Job’s comment might have been a key step in making Bezos understand the physical sales of some products which were likely to fizzle out.
