SunstarTV Bureau: China has barred from airing the British television channel BBC World News in its country, informed the National Radio and Television Administration said on Friday.
According to sources, the move has been taken by China over BBC report detailing accounts of alleged torture and sexual violence against Uighur women.
After an investigation based witnessed by BBC, had reported allegations of systematic rape, sexual abuse and torture of women detainees by police and guards in China’s western region of Xinjiang.
While the China administration also blamed BBC as China-related contents had ‘seriously violated’ regulations, including that news should be “truthful and fair,” had harmed China’s national interests and undermined national unity.
In a statement, the BBC said it was “disappointed” by the decision.
“We are disappointed that the Chinese authorities have decided to take this course of action,” a BBC spokeswoman said.
“The BBC is the world’s most trusted international news broadcaster and reports on stories from around the world fairly, impartially and without fear or favor.”
Meanwhile, British media regulator Ofcom revoked CGTN’s license to broadcast in the UK on February 4 after an investigation found the license was wrongfully held by Star China Media Ltd.
