Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): With an aim to provide social security to children with special needs and senior citizens, the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) has decided to construct Integrated Infrastructure Complexes (IIC) in 30 districts, in a phased manner as per its 5T action plan.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the State Cabinet approved a proposal of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department in connection with the Integrated Infrastructure Complexes.
In the first phase 10 complexes will come up in Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Ganjam and Nabarangpur districts. The complexes will be constructed from the allocation made in the State Budget. One such complex in Sundargarh district will be funded out of the District Mineral Fund (DMF).
The Integrated Infrastructure Complexes will be upgraded as ‘Centres of Excellence’ which will include old age home, home for destitute, physiotherapy centre, medical unit, rehabilitation centre and special schools for visually impaired, hearing impaired and those with intellectual disabilities.
IIC will have adequate sports facility, cultural and other extracurricular facilities for the overall development of children with special needs and also for Senior Citizens.
A total of 27 proposals were approved by the State cabinet during today’s meeting.
