SunstarTV Bureau: Bhubaneswar, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had achieved another landmark and becoming the first hospital in Odisha to implant a micro leadless pacemaker in the heart of a patient, on Thursday.
The leadless pacemaker is a miniaturised heart device with the most advanced pacing technology. This tiny machine is inserted directly into the heart, unlike regular pacemakers implanted just below the skin on the chest.
The surgery was performed by cardiologist and electro-physiologist doctor Debashis Acharya and doctor Debashis Dash.
According to medical sources, leadless pacemaker was implanted into the patient as there was problem in implanting conventional pacemaker due to arrhythmia.
However, the implantation of leadless pacemaker costs around Rs 10 lakh to 12 lakh. But the hospital has carried out the implantation with concession to the patient.
