SunstarTV Bureau: According to the sources, Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, is likely to be elevated as the new vice chief of Army Staff very soon.
Mohanty is currently serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command of India and is set to become the 42nd vice chief of Indian Army and he will be the first Odia officer to be selected for the post, which is next in rank to the Chief of Army Staff in the Indian Army.
The Odia Army officer is a native of Jayabada village in Jagatsingpur. The news of his appointment has not only brought cheers among the residents of the district but the whole of Odisha.
Lt Gen Mohanty has operational experience along the borders with Pakistan and China and in active counter-insurgency operations in Assam. He has also led a multinational UN brigade in Congo.
