Bhubaneswar (SunstarTV Bureau): The State Transport department will soon to install intelligent camera systems on the entire stretch of the National Highway No-16 from Rameswar in Khorda district to Panikoili in Jajpur district.
The hi-tech initiative has been taken by State government to penalize violators and to minimize loss of human lives in road accidents in state.
According to plans, the CCTV cameras will be installed in every 4 to 5 kilometers of the NH, informed Odisha Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda on Monday. Apart, GPS systems will be installed in public transport vehicles including buses, taxis and school buses.
“The system will be helpful in tracking the vehicles on a real time basis and their speed can also be analysed,” said Panda.
“It is an ambitious project and we have got response from 32 bidders in the tender process. The work for the installation of intelligent camera systems will be taken up soon,” the Transport Commissioner said.
Besides, the Transport department has also allocated Rs 15 crores for the mega vehicle location tracking system.
